No, it had nothing to do with a writer’s block that you loyal readers had to do without me over the last few weeks. Miranda and I were simply on holiday!
We went to South Africa, for those who knows us a bit better, indeed the place where we had been looking for three years to buy a guesthouse, before we gave up there, had a quick look in Andalusia and bought this renovated farmhouse that we turned into Cortijo El Guarda. So, why go back there after 6 years?
Well, we wanted to have a relaxed, sunny holiday in a country that we knew pretty well so that we hadn’t to be on the road to see and do all kind of things. This was about relaxation. But maybe even more to see if and why we like the country with so many challenges still so much.
We can only answer in the most positive way. We admired the landscape again, enjoyed to great food and wine culture and slept in places we once thought about buying. We recognised the feelings that we had in those days and still understand why we fell in love with that part of the world.
The challenges are still there, may be more than when we last where there but so are the beauties. But when we visited our mums on the way back to Spain we also understood how important it is for us to be close to them in the second part of their eighties. So still in love with South Africa and no regrets about our choices. The colour of the grass is equally green to us.
Sounds good, doesn’t it?
