El Guarda 2014, the epilogue

20141019_095531 Sam (3)Again it is mid November, another year at Cortijo El Guarda has passed. It was our third full season with, once more, many reasons to be very happy about the way things went, to say the least. And we were not the only ones: our satisfaction always is a reflection of the way how our guests feel and judge their stay with us. Their kind words when they leave, or when writing us a mail afterwards really makes us happy. It also shows on TripAdvisor where we have been reviewed some 130 times now, of which only 1 rated us as ‘Very Good’ and the rest gave the highest possible score of ‘Excellent”. Also the 9,7/10 rating on Booking.com make us very proud. And the jewel in the crown: We were elected by review site Zoover as the Best Bed and Breakfast in Spain.

Further 2014 brought us:

  • our first guests from Japan, New Zealand, Poland and Israel
  • a further increase of non Dutch clientèle by almost 30%
  • an – above average – overall growth of number of guests
  • a healthy increase of average nights stayed
  • guests returning even for the third year in a row

Only good things then? No. We were confronted with the first people that had booked and didn’t turn up (but paid…) and the first doubtful debts. Disappointing but – I guess – all part of doing business.

Of course we couldn’t have done it all without the people here working with us and for us and we are sincerely grateful to them for their commitment to us and our guests. And finally there always is of course Sam, the most photographed dog in the Ronda area and a genuine friend to our guests, staff and us.

We are closed now until March, a time to relax, seeing friends and family and do the usual maintenance. Hasta Pronto!

About The El Guarda Posts

We are a Dutch couple - Miranda and Hans - that has after having searched for a small hotel to buy in several countries around the world we came across El Guarda and fell in love with it straight away. We would love to share our excitement for the place and its surroundings with our guests and invite you to stay with us for some days when travelling through gorgeous Andalucía.

    Dear Miranda and Hans,

What a wonderful letter. It all shows both your compassion for your guests and the life you live.
Greet and I still talk and dream about the time we stayed at El Guarda. The place and the people
of Spain makes us believe life and holidays can be spent in a super relaxed and luxuries way.
Pictures are there but will never replace the warm feelings.

    hartelijke groet,

    Greet en Freek

    • Dear Greet and Freek, thanks for your kind words.
Someone once said: “Hospitality is making your guests feel at home, even though you wish they were” Great if you can do that, for us however better that you find them coming as guests and leaving as friends.
